Sestri Levante, 20 luglio 2012. Varo del leudo "Nuovo aiuto di Dio"
Sestri Levante, Italy, 20th of July 2012. Launch of a sailboat. Sestri Levante is located in the Italian Riviera, not far from genoa and the French coast. This is the Mediterranean, and the promontory in the distance is Portofino.
The leudo is a traditional type of sailboat. This is one of the few remaining. It was small enough to be taken ashore as Liguria did not have good ports. It was big enough to sail to Corsica, Tuscany, Sicily.
it was used to trade wine, cheese, and sand for construction world.
When sailing fully loaded, it was very low on the sea-level and during storms the deck was covered by waves.
